Basic Drill

Before each cadet can be enrolled they must meet a basic drill standard, which is assessed through a drill test. The test may be downloaded here. As a cadet you will need to be able to:

  • Come to attention
  • Stand at ease
  • Left, right and about turn at the halt
  • Left and right incline at the halt
  • Salute to the front, left and right at the halt
  • Right dress
  • March in quick time
  • About turn in quick time
  • Halt from quick time
  • Eyes left and right while marching in quick time
  • Salute to the left and right while marching in quick time

Advanced Drill

Further drill movements at quick time include:

  • Change Step
  • Left and right turns in quick time
  • Officer passing the front salute
  • To the front Salute
  • March and conduct drill movements in slow time

Banner & Rifle Drill

The next step up is banner and rifle drill where movements specific to the banner or rifle are learned. Cadets who choose to learn banner drill can go on to parade the squadron banner at formal parades.

There are annual Drill and Banner party competitions which only the highest standard of cadets in drill and uniform will be selected. Get practicing and you may be chosen.
